**This is a shared, part-time, temporary position (10% FTE) and will not exceed 11 months.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Provides coverage for the North Carolina Collection (NCC), the special collections unit of the Durham County Library.
Work is performed independently under the supervision of the North Carolina Collection Manager. Provide relief and emergency coverage at all Durham County Library locations.
Must be available for weekend rotations (Saturdays and Sundays) and for holiday coverage. This position is expected to work at least 20 hours per week.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule including days, evenings and weekends and have reliable transportation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Holds shifts at the NCC Information Desk and provides research assistance to customers both in-person and remotely through email, phone, and chat.
- Works on collection-based projects. This can include archival processing of manuscript collections, cataloging work with the bibliographic collection, management of digital collections, and digitization of materials.
- Participates in promotional activities for the collection including creating digital and physical exhibits, holding instructional sessions with a wide variety of customers, and hosting library programs.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- General knowledge of professional library and archival principles, procedures, materials, and practices
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and library patrons
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Ability to understand and interpret library rules, policies and procedures
- Strong computer skills in a variety of tools, software, and platforms
- Commitment to excellence in customer service.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Requires a master’s degree in library science from an ALA accredited library school.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
North Carolina local history knowledge preferred as well as experience in archives or special collections
