SUMMARY OBJECTIVE
The purpose of this position is to provide responsible technical and skilled work, installing, troubleshooting and testing microcomputer hardware and software, providing knowledgeable first line support of information systems for the assigned department. This position will work with a team that provides dedicated support to Durham County Library.
This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
• Provides training for specific computer applications and systems.
• Plans, installs and tests new equipment and software.
• Configures, setup and maintain master stations, reservation stations, and print release software.
• Assists in maintaining personal computer and terminal equipment database.
• Troubleshoots hardware problems related to PCs, terminals, and peripherals.
• Produce system reports.
• Troubleshoots software problems related to office automation and applications programs.
• Performs minor in-house repairs on PCs and coordinates major repairs with equipment vendors.
• Develop and document IT standards and procedures, including maintenance and operational protocols, to enhance department IT infrastructure.
• Deliver superior customer service, ensuring effective communication with both internal and external stakeholders.
• Coordinates support with Durham County Information Technology Department.
• Provides user support in installing and using PCs, terminals, peripherals, and applications software.
• Performs related work as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Thorough knowledge of personal computer technology.
• Ability to install PCs, operating systems, and applications software.
• Ability to work independently or as a team member to identify requirements, find and evaluate alternatives, present solutions, make recommendations and follow projects through to completion.
• Ability to take initiative and use creative and innovative thinking to find solutions to computer or technical problems.
• Ability to serve as a team member, providing coordination and leadership to other team members.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with users, peers and department officials.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
• High School Graduation or GED equivalent.
• Two (2) years of technical support for IT hardware and software or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Direct experience in library technology environments.
• Experience with library industry specific hardware and software.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
• Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
