GENERAL DESCRIPTION


The Staff Development Specialist will serve as the Simulation Coordinator. The incumbent will ensure the readiness and operations of the simulation center and mobile simulation unit of the EMS Division. The position oversees the preparation, maintenance, inventory, and operation of all simulation equipment and supplies. The Simulation Coordinator will collaborate with the Professional Development team to design, plan, implement and schedule simulation activities for the Academy and provide continuous education. The simulation coordinator ensures adherence to program policies/objectives/outcomes and current simulation best practices and safety measures.
 

NOTE: Evening or weekend shifts are required

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Coordinates role players’ and standardized patients’ training and scheduling
  • Collaborates with the Field Training and Evaluation Program (FTEP) Coordinator for phase and clearance processes for system providers
    Performs other related duties as required
  • Develops and coordinates activities to support continuing education programs for EMS system providers and other first responders within Durham County.
  • Develops and conducts simulation exercises for other first responders within Durham County.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

  • Considerable knowledge of principles and techniques of training.
  • Working knowledge of various ranges of simulation manikins (high to low fidelity), such as Gaumard, Laerdal, etc.
  • Working knowledge of Audio Visual and Information Technology resources which correspond with simulation equipment and processes, such as KB Port
  • Conducts debriefing sessions
  • Ability to driving and maneuver trailers
  • Ability to organize and coordinate training activities, evaluate student learning, and to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in written form.
  • Ability to work effectively with others and use sound judgment in applying policies, procedures, and training principles.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment and supplies with assistance as needed
  • Ability to lift, carry, climb, extricate and perform other physical maneuvers involved in rescuing and rendering care to patients

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS


Graduation from a four-year college or university and two years of experience in a human service program, counseling, training, in the subject or specialty area, or in an administrative support role in a staff development and training office; or graduation from high school and five years of progressively responsible experience directly related to training in the subject or specialty area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES


Valid North Carolina Driver’s License with an acceptable three year driving record.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Current North Carolina Paramedic credential or relevant hospital/prehospital emergency medicine experience.
  • Experience in healthcare simulation as an educator or simulation technician
