GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

 

Performs complex professional, administrative and technical work managing and promoting the Durham County Memorial Stadium; performs related work as required.

Work is performed under general supervision of the General Services Deputy Director and the Stadium Authority. Supervision is exercised over the Stadium staff and professional contract services staff.

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

 

  • Plans, organizes, manages and participates in the operation of the Durham County Memorial Stadium.
  • Develops and oversees strategies for marketing, promoting and publicizing the Stadium.
  • Solicits corporate sponsorships of venues and operational services.
  • Develops marketing brochures, news releases and other marketing materials.  
  • Conducts and prepares the Stadium Authority Board meeting agenda.
  • Assist in the creation of rules and regulations governing the operation of the Stadium.  
  • Must have the ability to prepare and present recommendations for stadium rental, usage fees and rates to the Stadium Authority for approval.  Will negotiate contracts for the management of concessions, capital constructions, supplies and equipment purchases, facility repair, and other services on the behalf of the Stadium Authority.  
  • Will schedule stadium events and ensures all fees are collected.  
  • The ability to create and implements a strategic plan to continue the enhancement, expansion and continued use of the stadium.  
  • Must have the ability to prepare written operational reports.  
  • Must be able to prepare and monitor an operational and revenue budget.
  • Supervises the County Facility Use program that allows internal and external customers rent conference room spaces owned by the County for not for profit use.  Create contractual agreements and prepares rate studies for comparison of similar facility rental fees. Prepare recommendation of additional services or event types that can be consider for executive management consideration. 
  • Ensure Capital program 10-year plan is created for both programs. Prepare operational budget and revenue projections. 
  • Perform related tasks as required.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

 

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of public and business administration;
  • Thorough knowledge of budgeting, personnel, purchasing, and accounting practices and procedures;
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of marketing and business promotion;
  • Advanced construction management and  project management skills;
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of field maintenance and landscaping;
  • The ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing;
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with corporate sponsors, educational institutions, sporting organizations, civic organizations, event organizers, local media and other support organizations and authorities.

 

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, marketing, construction management or a related field and five years of progressively complex project, facilities or business management experience.

 

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Carolina
