GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

 

The primary purpose of the Senior Processing Assistant position is to provide administrative and clerical support to the Allied Health (Laboratory and Pharmacy) division of the Durham County Department of Public Health. 

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

 

  • This position will serve as a backup for front desk personnel with tasks to include greeting guests, monitoring telephone calls and directing guests to service.
  • This position is responsible for maintaining employee training files and related documentation in an organized, easily retrievable manner as well as managing the inventory through the Kanban system and placing laboratory orders.
  • This position will maintain the division's calendar, compile statistical data and create reports.
  • This position is also responsible for scheduling and maintaining accurate laboratory calibration records and reports.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

 

    • Independent functioning with excellent problem solving and customer service skills.
    • Must be able to read and interpret technical data.
    • Advanced computer skills to include Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, outlook), Epic
    • Significant knowledge of office or work unit procedures, methods and practices.
    • Significant knowledge of and ability to use correct grammar, vocabulary, spelling and office terminology to compose and/or proofread correspondence, reports and other materials.
    • Significant knowledge of accounting procedures, mathematics and their application in the work environment.
    • Ability to learn and independently apply laws and departmental rules and regulations covering programs and services.
    • Ability to review and process information to determine conclusions, actions or compliance with applicable laws, rules or regulations.
    • Ability to apply a variety of work-related formulas or mathematical calculations.
    • Ability to record, compile, summarize and perform basic analysis of data.
    • Ability to independently work with people with courtesy and tact in performing public contact duties that may be sensitive in nature.
    • May require ability to supervise and coordinate the work of other staff, student workers or volunteers.

 

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

 

Graduation from high school and demonstrated possession of knowledges, skills and abilities gained through at least two years of office assistant/secretarial experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

 

 

To further the mission of the Durham County Department of Public Health (DCoDPH) to partner with our community to advance health equity, protect the environment, and promote health and wellness for all, DCoDPH is implementing the employee vaccination and tuberculosis screening policies. All DCoDPH employees are considered healthcare personnel (HCP) working in a health care setting with the potential for exposure to patients and/or infectious materials and, therefore, are required to comply and provide documented proof of the following:


•    Measles, Mumps & Rubella (MMR) vaccination/immunity 
•    Varicella-Zoster Virus (Chicken Pox) vaccination/immunity •    Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis)
•    Tuberculosis (TB) baseline screening within the last twelve (12) months prior to employment
•    Hepatitis B vaccination/immunity – only required for DCoDPH employees with potential Bloodborne Pathogen (BBP) exposures.

 

Identified DCoDPH HCP with potential Bloodborne Pathogen (BBP) exposure have an additional requirement for the Hepatitis B vaccination. Required vaccination, serological testing to determine immunity, and baseline tuberculosis screening are available for all Public Health employees who elect to become DCoDPH patients upon request and at no cost.
Proof of vaccination and tuberculosis screening must be provided to Human Resources within seven (7) business days prior to the date of employment.
