DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The person selected for this position will assist the Program Integrity Unit of Durham County Department of Social Services. Candidate will maintain records of incoming referrals, established claims, accept payments, and prepare payment reports. He or she will sort and distribute incoming mail and direct incoming phones calls. They will also prepare and publish monthly reports for the DSS board. Performs administrative tasks for the Program Integrity Unit. Tasks include but are not limited to: management and assignment of new referrals for investigation, monitor multiple reports, create reports, maintain data in records system, record collection data, and maintain team supplies. Must be able to work with various computer systems and have a general knowledge of the programs offered by Social Services.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of some economic program general procedures, methods, and practices.
- Substantive knowledge and ability to use correct grammar, vocabulary, spelling, proofreading and program terminology to compose correspondence, reports and other materials.
- Substantive knowledge of program content and services to apply in the analysis of information and decision-making.
- Experience supporting a department/program with administrative duties.
- Experience collaborating and providing updates with other partnering agencies.
- Ability to record, compile, summarize and analyze narrative and numerical materials.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, organize and review administrative and program workflow and procedures.
- Ability to learn, interpret and analyze applicable program content and make necessary decisions.
- Ability to learn, interpret and explain policies, regulations and programs.
- Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in problem-solving.
- Ability to answer inquiries independently and coordinate a variety of resources in acquiring information.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Graduation from high school and demonstrated possession of knowledge, skills and abilities gained through at least three years of office assistant/secretarial experience; or completion of a two-year secretarial science or business administration program with one year of experience as described above; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bilingual preferred.
NCFAST knowledge preferred.
