DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The primary purpose of this position is to provide day to day management of the Maternal Health Clinic, which includes oversight of low-risk maternity care and associated services.  This position has immediate supervisory responsibilities for all personnel in the Maternal Health Clinic area, including Centering Pregnancy.  Within this category of clinic management, at least 20% of time is spent providing medical care to patients as a Registered Nurse, all under the orders and protocols established and approved by the Durham County Department of Public Health (DCoDPH) Maternal Health and Departmental Medical Director.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 

  • Considerable knowledge of public health nursing supervision of staff and programs. Ability to plan, coordinate, and supervise the work of others.
  • Considerable knowledge of the resources and organizations concerned with public health work in North Carolina, and current social and economic problems pertaining to public health.
  • Must possess a thorough knowledge of and skill in the application of principles and techniques employed in the fields of medicine, nursing, and public health, including obstetrics and women's health. 
  • Must possess the ability to prioritize, plan, coordinate, and supervise the work of others with attention to detail.
  • Ability to plan and execute work effectively and to deal tactfully with the public and other health professionals.

 

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

 

Master’s in Nursing and two years of public health nursing experience; or graduation from a four-year college or university with a B.S. in Nursing which includes a public health nursing rotation and three years of public health nursing experience; or a Master’s in Public Health and graduation from a school of professional nursing and two years of public health nursing experience; or graduation from a school of professional nursing and four years of professional nursing experience, three of which must have been in public health; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

 

 

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:

 

Must hold a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the NC Board of Nursing.
