GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

 

This position is responsible for overseeing the management, delivery, setup, testing, maintenance, and logistics of equipment at polling locations throughout Durham County.


This position reports to the Election Services Manager and works under regular supervision. 

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

  • Procures facilities to act as polling place locations for voting;
  • Ensures the execution and management of polling place usage agreements;
  • Conducts polling place inspections to verify accessibility and operational readiness;
  • Ensures election facilities and polling places meet applicable ADA accessibility standards and safety requirements;
  • Serves as a safety liaison for election facilities and polling places;
  • Coordinates the delivery, setup, and retrieval of voting equipment, supplies, and materials for election facilities and polling places;
  • Assists with the testing and maintenance of voting equipment, electronic poll books and other technology necessary to operate polling places;
  • Assists with organizing warehouse space, staging equipment, and the tracking of inventory to support efficient distribution during election events;
  • Maintains operational records, prepares reports, and documents activities related to polling place management, equipment preparation, and election logistics;
  • Provides guidance and oversight to temporary employees assisting with election preparation activities, including polling place setup, equipment preparation, and supply distribution;
  • Assists management with administrative tasks and operational coordination necessary to support election preparation and logistics;
  • Performs related work as assigned.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 

  • Expertise in optimizing logistics, inventory control, and supply chain processes; 
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Proven ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and solve complex operational problems;
  • Skilled in drafting clear, accurate, and concise reports and documentation;
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and interact professionally with the public;
  • Strong technical ability to quickly learn new software, systems, and tools;
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to manage high-stress situations and work long hours and strenuous hours during peak election periods;
  • Highly organized with experience in physical space optimization and warehouse arrangement;
  • Ability to organize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in time-sensitive environments;
  • Ability to adapt to changing election requirements and operational needs;
  • Ability to work extended hours during election preparation and election events;
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

 

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

 

    • Associated degree in computer science, logistics, business administration or related field with two (2) years of experience in logistics and technology management.
    • A bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred.

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

 

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

    • Performs some sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.

 

 

UNAVOIDABLE HAZARDS (WORK ENVIRONMENT):

 

Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.

 

    • Involves exposure to warehouse equipment, physical labor, and seasonal workloads.

 

 

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Forklift certification must be obtained within (3) three months of hire.
  • Certification in logistics or supply chain management is strongly preferred.
