GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

 

The Project BUILD Outreach Worker will work with youth and young adults, ages 14-21, and their families.  The position will carry a regular caseload of 15-25 gang-involved program participants on an ongoing basis. This position will respond to referrals, conduct intake assessments, and work as a part of a multidisciplinary team to develop an intervention plan and implement this plan with clients.  This position requires frequent interaction and relationship building with youth, families, and community partners, including schools, court and criminal justice personnel, and grassroots agencies.  The Project BUILD Outreach Worker will have a high level of familiarity with Durham neighborhoods, agencies, and schools; knowledge of local gang issues; and prior experience working with youth.   Durham County residents preferred.   

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 

  • Ability to work effectively with high risk and gang involved youth/young adults and their families.
  • Familiarity with issues and needs of gang-involved and high-risk youth.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with school, criminal justice, and other program personnel.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to make sound decisions and demonstrate good judgement in areas of responsibility.
  • Basic computer literacy and the ability to perform accurate and timely documentation of client service delivery.

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND REQUIREMENTS:

 

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and six months of work experience related to the assigned program.
