DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Provide on-call relief and emergency coverage at all Durham County Library locations. Provide excellent customer service utilizing automated systems at all service points, including the circulation, children’s and information desks, computer areas, and on the Bookmobile. This person performs a variety of duties that include, but are not limited to, issuing new library cards, processing reserves, collecting fines, shelving books, retrieving books from shelves, emptying book drops and checking in materials.

 

Must be able to work evening and weekend hours and have reliable transportation. Must be able to work at least 25 hours per week.

  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to learn and apply a variety of guidelines applicable to the work process.
  • Ability to understand and interpret library rules, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to use a variety of office equipment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain pleasant and effective working relationships with other employees and library patrons.
  • Ability to work with people with courtesy and tact in performing public contact duties.

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

 

Graduation from high school and demonstrated possession of knowledges, skills and abilities gained through at least one year of office assistant/secretarial experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICTIONS

 

  • Previous library experience highly desired.    
  • Ability to speak Spanish.
