GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

 

Provides clerical support for the Circulation Unit of the North Regional Library. Work is performed with independence under the supervision of the Library Circulation Manager. 

 

The person in this position will work rotating shifts including day, evening and weekend hours, as assigned. Although this position is based at the North Regional Library, the selected candidate may be asked to work at other locations.

 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
:

 

  • Support library circulation functions by registering new borrowers, checking items in and out, pulling holds, collecting fees, daily intake and delivery of library materials.
  • Answer questions and provide routine information in person and over the phone.
  • Assist with emptying book return, keeping shelves in orderly condition and shifting books on shelves.
  • Provide excellent customer service in a team-based environment.
  • Work at the adult and children’s information desks as part of cross-scheduling training
  • Actively serve on system teams and committees, as assigned.
  • Assist with special projects that support the library’s strategic plan.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 

  • Thorough knowledge of library policies and procedures
  • General knowledge of library principles, methods, materials, and practices
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Skilled in library technology
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with library employees and patrons
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment

 


MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
:

 

  • High School Graduation or GED equivalent.
  • One (1) year of customer service, clerical support or related experience preferred.

 


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
:

 

Ability to speak Spanish a plus.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Physical demands refer to the requirements for exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.  

 

  • Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
