GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

 

Provides customer service support at the public service desk at the Bragtown Library. Although the position is based at Bragtown Library, the selected candidate could be asked to work at other library locations.

 

  • Work is performed under the supervision of the Bragtown Library Manager.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings.

This position is part-time, 53% FTE and works approximately 19.88 hrs/week.

This position is eligible for pro-rated benefits.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Provide reference and reader’s advisory services for customers via phone, online chat, email, and in person.
  • Assist customers with using online catalog, computers and electronic resources.
  • Perform circulation duties including check-in and check-out of materials, issuing library cards, and processing holds.
  • Responsible for shelving, shifting, shelf-reading, and maintaining orderly collections.
  • Process and manage Interlibrary Loan (ILL) requests according to system procedures.
  • Attend systemwide circulation meetings and participate in circulation-related trainings and discussions.
  • Follow established cash handling and revenue procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining a neat and welcoming environment.
  • Provide excellent customer service in a team-based environment.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 

  • Knowledge of current and emerging technologies coupled with a working knowledge of both library computer systems and electronic resources and databases
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service via phone, online chat, email, and in-person
  • Ability to work well independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with staff and customers.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills highly desired.

 

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

 

Graduation from high school and demonstrated possession of knowledge, skills, and abilities gained through at least one year of office assistant/secretarial experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Experience working in a public library or related setting.
  • Coursework or a bachelor’s degree in Library Science or a related field
