GENERAL DESCRIPTION

 

Designs, implements and evaluates the DINE Childcare Program, a nutrition consultation program aimed at improving the nutrition and physical activity environments in child care facilities that serve children from low income families in Durham County.  Works closely with community agencies to enroll qualifying facilities.  Works closely with child care directors, staff and parents to provide nutrition education, provide staff trainings, and facilitate environmental changes to help meet children’s nutrition and physical activity needs.  Responsible for data collection of project activities and writing reports required for the project.   

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

  • Thorough knowledge of nutrition and public health

  • Understanding of how to assess community needs and assets and to plan programs based on that assessment

  • Proficiency in conducting and interpreting program and performace evaluations

  • Understanding of curriculum development and evaluation

  • Ability to apply research findings and national health/nutrition practice recommendations into public health programming

  • Ability to work independently and with a team

  • Excellent customer service skills and attitude

  • Flexibility

  • Time management skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

 

Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a master’s degree in nutrition or public health nutrition and one year of nutrition/dietitian experience; or a bachelor’s degree in dietetics or foods and nutrition and two years of nutrition/dietitian experience.  

 

SPECIAL LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

 

Registered Dietitian (RD) by the ADA Commission on Dietetic Registration and NC Dietitian/Nutritionist License (LDN)

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Experience with facilitating policy, systems and environmental changes to help foster healthy behavior changes

  • Experience working with the preschool population (Birth - 5 years old)

  • Experience with online learning platforms and tools 

  • Bilingual in Spanish
