GENERAL DESCRIPTION

 

This position involves primarily the upkeep of the Triangle Wastewater Treatment Plant and associated Collection System including the grounds, buildings, and equipment. 

Reports to the Utility Supervisor - Maintenance. 

 

The TWWTP is rated for an average daily flow of 12 million gallons per day and is specifically designed to meet future nutrient load requirements for the Jordan Lake nutrient management strategy. The TWWTP serves the southeast portion of Durham County inside and outside the Durham City limits and serves the Research Triangle Park within Durham County. The collection and treatment of domestic sewage and wastewater is vital to public health and clean water. It is among the most important factors responsible for the general level of good health enjoyed in the United States.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Duties include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Mowing and trimming grass, shrubbery and trees;
  • Painting and surface preparation;  
  • Hauling trash and general housekeeping; 
  • Cleaning and caring for buildings and tanks;
  • Assisting operators and maintenance personnel as needed in their daily work assignments;
  • Assisting collection system operators during sewer outfall inspections and manhole repairs;
  • Maintaining collection system easements;
  • Safely applying herbicides and pesticides as needed;
  • Performing simple preventative and corrective maintenance work as assigned by the supervisor. 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

Employee must have knowledge of, or the ability to acquire knowledge of the materials, equipment, and tools used to assist in the repair and maintenance of buildings and grounds; and be able to operate motorized equipment, handle tools, brushes, weed sprayers and mow in a safe manner. Good physical condition is needed. 

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

 

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of high school and one year of experience with the use of common hand tools and equipment or general maintenance work. 

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Must possess a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Carolina.  Ability to lift 50 (fifty) pounds is required.
