GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

This position will service the Courthouse and the Detention Center.  Performs difficult skilled and technical work in the operation, maintenance and repair of a variety of mechanical equipment and/or electrical systems; does related work as required.

Work is performed under general supervision. Position will be supervised by the Security Manager.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

• The rekey of the County Courthouse 697 locks;
• Maintenance of the Mogul locks at the detention center 590 locks;
• Maintenance of paracentric locks at the detention center 529 locks;
• Maintenance of Best System locks 522;
• Maintenance of 1,180 Cylinders;
• Replacement of 400 security screws replacement throughout the detention center;
• Services is expected to 1,193.8 on going services hours of work;
• Maintenance includes, cleaning, lubricating, repining, cutting keys, issuing keys and replacement of malfunction locks or cylinder;
• Performs related tasks as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, equipment, tools and techniques of mechanical equipment repair;
• Thorough knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions associated with equipment maintenance work;
• Skill in the operation of the tools and equipment used in the trade;
• Knowledge of applicable Life Safety and egress codes;
• Ability to diagnose mechanical trouble in small machines end mechanical equipment;
• Ability to understand and carry out detailed oral and written instructions;
• Ability to plan and supervise other employees;
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment under pressure to meet deadlines;
• Ability to maintain working relationships with a diverse population.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and three years of locksmith experience which includes six months in a lead worker capacity.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:

Requires a valid Locksmith License issued by the North Carolina Licensing Board and a valid class-appropriate driver’s license issued by the State of North Carolina.
