GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The purpose of this job is to perform routine clerical work in the public library system.
This position works under close supervision according to set procedures.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.
- Loads books onto book carts and arranges books in order for shelving.
- Places books on shelves in the proper order and reviews shelves for books that are out of place.
- Unloads book drop boxes and brings books inside library.
- Picks up books and materials that are no longer in use from tables and chairs and returns to proper location.
- Clears away trash and debris and dusts books and shelves.
- Returns materials and supplies to proper locations.
- Directs patrons to various parts of the library.
- Answers telephone and direct calls to appropriate staff member.
- Sorts and delivers mail.
- Searches shelves for lost books.
- Performs related work as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by six (6) months of customer service experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to speak Spanish a plus.
Preference given to candidates with consistent night/weekend availability.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
- Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 40 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
