SUMMARY OBJECTIVE:
The purpose of this position is to deliver books, materials, and equipment to the various library locations.
This position works under the supervision of the Assistant Library Director for Facilities and Planning.
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
- Collects, sorts, loads, and unloads books and materials for delivery to the appropriate library or county department.
- Perform daily vehicle pre-trip checks before scheduled deliveries.
- Make weekly bank deposits for the library system, as needed.
- Assist with pick-up and delivery of weeded materials for recycling, as needed.
- Perform minimal maintenance tasks, as needed.
- Performs related tasks as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Some knowledge of the procedures, practices, and equipment of a public library.
- Some knowledge of business English, spelling, and math.
- Some knowledge of motorized equipment operation and maintenance.
- Some knowledge of the materials, equipment, tools and techniques of building cleaning and maintenance.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to operate a van.
- Ability to maintain alphabetical and numerical files.
- Ability to work cooperatively with library patrons and employees.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
- Ability to lift and carry books and other heavy items and to load and push a hand truck.
- Ability and physical stamina to stand, bend and lift up to 50 lbs. following all safety procedures.
- Must be organized, efficient and possess excellent time management skills.
- Must possess strong customer service orientation and have the ability to contribute to a team environment.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Graduation or GED equivalent.
- One (1) year of customer service, transportation, courier services or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to speak Spanish, a plus
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy.
