GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

 


The purpose of this position is to deliver books, materials, and equipment to the various library locations.


This position works under the supervision of the Assistant Library Director for Facilities and Planning.

 

Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Maintain the daily schedule of delivering mail and library materials between the seven Durham County Library locations and other County locations as needed.
  • Perform daily pre-trip checks each morning before scheduled deliveries.
  • Make weekly bank deposits for the library system.
  • Perform minimal maintenance tasks, as needed.
  • Performs related tasks as assigned.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 

  • Some knowledge of the procedures, practices, and equipment of a public library.
  • Some knowledge of business English, spelling, and math.
  • Some knowledge of motorized equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Some knowledge of the materials, equipment, tools and techniques of building cleaning and maintenance.
  • Some knowledge of a computer keyboard.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to operate a van.
  • Ability to maintain alphabetical and numerical files.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with library patrons and employees.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to lift and carry books and other heavy items and to load and push a hand truck.
  • Ability and physical stamina to stand, bend and lift up to 50 lbs. following all safety procedures.
  • Must be organized, efficient and possess excellent time management skills.
  • Must possess strong customer service orientation and have the ability to contribute to a team environment.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs.

 

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • High School Graduation or GED equivalent.
  • One (1) year of customer service, transportation, courier services or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

 

Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy.

 

 

PREFERRED:

 

  • Ability to speak Spanish, a plus
