GENERAL DESCRIPTION


This position will research, develop, implement, test and review organizational information security in order to protect information and prevent unauthorized access and disclosures. The position will explain potential threats, implement security measures, and implement remediation/mitigation processes to resolve and/or eliminate vulnerabilities.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Monitors information security technologies to ensure actionable intelligence is being collected.
  • Reports on security incidents, remediation efforts, and mitigations identified by the security tools and third-party vendors.
  • Maintains security tools to ensue they are optimized for the Durham County environment.
  • Assists IS&T with the identification, response, remediation, and recovery of malware outbreaks across the county.
  • Implements processes for receiving, documenting, tracking, investigating, and acting on all security policies and procedures.
  • Manages all required breach determination and notification processes under HIPAA and applicable State breach rules and requirements.
  • Coordinates with internal IS&T team members to investigate information security related issues.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs information security-related technology issues.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of information security technologies and how those technologies can benefit the county’s security posture and help to minimize security threats.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS


Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity or related field, supplemented by a minimum of three years of equivalent experience; or an Associate’s degree in Information Security or related field with five years of prior experience with cybersecurity and compliance frameworks such as National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) cybersecurity framework; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

 

SPECIAL CERTIFICATION AND LICENSES


A valid North Carolina driver’s license is required.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


A security certification such as CompTIA Security+, (ISC)² CISSP, or equivalent is preferred.
