General Description:
The City-County Immigrant & Refugee Affairs Coordinator directs economic, civic, and cultural initiatives that impact immigrants and refugees (IR) living within the community. This is a shared position between Durham County Government and the City of Durham.
Work is performed under general supervision.


Duties and Responsibilities:
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.
• Develop and implement strategies, in collaboration with local community-based organizations, that promote awareness of available public resources, and that identify available funding sources.
• Collaborate with local and state agencies on IR initiatives.
• Serve as the City-County liaison between IR communities and local organizations.
• Provide support to committees, task forces, and teams created for the purpose of developing programs and identifying funding sources etc.
• Coordinate outreach, education, employment, and recreational initiatives that foster engagement and inclusion.
• Develop media communications that promote City-County IR initiatives.
• Conduct assessments/evaluations to measure the effectiveness of programs and projects.
• Report activities and outcomes to stakeholders and to City-County officials.
• Performs related work as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Considerable knowledge of programs and policies that impact IR communities.
• Ability to work independently and to effectively plan and prioritize workload.
• Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.
• Ability to collect and analyze data for decision making.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain positive, productive, and effective relationships.
• Demonstrated ability to facilitate meetings, workshops, and group discussions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and data base management.

 

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Human Services, Social Work or related field from an appropriately accredited college or university and two years of directly related experience or a combination of education and experience equivalent to 5 years of experience.

 

Preferred:
Master’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Human Services, Social Work or related field.
