General Description 

 

The purpose of this job is to oversee the electrical systems within Durham County facilities. This position reports to the Assistant General Services Director.

The functions listed below are those that represent where most of the incumbent’s time is spent working on task related to this position.  Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Manages and supervise the electrical work performed at all county job sites under his/her supervision.

 

  • Oversees the application and interpretation of National Electric Code and other applicable codes and standards.

 

  • Responsible for projecting budget costs for each Fiscal Year as it pertains to the electrical section and submit and submit to the budget coordinator. This includes tracking costs and remaining budget throughout the Fiscal Year.

 

  • Reviews and signs off on all invoicing and receipts pertaining to the work from the electrical section.

 

  • Plans and schedules projects.

 

  • Assigns and reviews work done by electrical staff.

 

  • Designs and implements work schedules for the electrical staff.

 

  • Estimates the time and materials needed to compete projects.

 

  • Provides motivation and assistance for staff as necessary.

 

  • Reads and interprets design schematics to ensure proper installation of electrical systems.

 

  • Troubleshoots major system failures and equipment.

 

  • Trains and research training opportunities for incumbent and staff.

 

  • Trains and keeps abreast of local, state, and national electrical codes and standards.

 

  • Trains and informs employees regarding new work procedures.

 

  • Handles personnel issues of those employees assigned under them. Ensures that work complies with all safety requirements.

 

  • Inspects electrical systems to determine root cause of each issue.

 

  • Provides information on modification on work polices, safety regulations, electrical codes, and specifications.

 

  • This position is considered essential and will be required to work during inclement weather events and on after hour calls.

Requirements:

 

  • Must have an electrical license or Electrical Contractual licenses.

 

  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience as an Electrician with at least two (2) years in a supervisory role. 

 

  • Experience with preventive maintenance and maintenance management of electrical equipment.

 

  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft and Outlook required.

 

  • Be able to pass a background check for working within a detention facility.
