GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

 

The County Early Childhood Coordinator will be responsible for driving county and community-wide efforts around Early Childhood initiatives and practices in Durham County. The position provides leadership for Durham County’s involvement in the Early Childhood Action Plan (ECAP) and the County’s work and investment in Durham PreK, among other initiatives.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • The position provides coordination, content expertise, technical assistance, and support for County initiatives and funding for major early childhood collaborations underway in Durham, including our universal pre-k program, Durham PreK, and our early childhood collective impact initiative, Grown in Durham.
  • Supports a diverse set of partners in making progress toward a set of shared goals and objectives outlined in our local Early Childhood Action Plan.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative partnerships with organizations and various individuals, including parents of young children.
  • Serves as a key county liaison with local and state-level early childhood initiatives and collaboratives,
  • Manages the development and implementation of early childhood-related County contracts as needed.
  • Performs related work as required.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

 

  • Expertise in facilitation of equitable collaborative efforts among partners, such as Collective Impact or other approaches.
  • Experience with and knowledge of early childhood programs and policies, especially in the areas of early childhood education and childcare.
  • Experience with program and/or project management
  • Strong organizational leadership and planning skills.
  • Strong oral communication and writing skills, including the ability to distill and communicate complex information for various audiences.
  • Ability to maintain positive, productive, and supportive relationships with many types of constituents, including parents with young children, elected officials, and institutional leaders.
  • Demonstrated experience with supporting family leadership and centering the voices of people most impacted in partnerships and collaboration.
  • Ability to develop relationships and partnerships to expand funding opportunities for early childhood initiatives and projects.
  • Demonstrated experience with proposal and contract management, including the provision of technical assistance and capacity building to community-based organizations.

 

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

Requires a bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Communication, Early Childhood, Public Administration, Education Administration, Community Development, and related majors with five years of relevant experience.

 

 

PREFERRED:

 

  • Master’s Degree
  • Knowledge of Durham-based early childhood initiatives and collaborations, including Durham PreK.
  • Significant knowledge of or lived experience in communities representing Durham County’s diverse population
  • Expertise in childcare policy and funding
  • Grant writing or other philanthropic experience
