GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The part-time (18 hours, 48% FTE) position coordinates the Welcome Baby Giving Closet that provides clothing and supplies to benefit families with young children from 0-5 years. Welcome Baby is a program of Durham County Cooperative Extension. Work is performed under the immediate supervision of a program manager for the Welcome Baby program. The position also performs clerical and/or program support duties within Welcome Baby and the Durham County Cooperative Extension department as needed.
TYPICAL TASKS:
- Coordinate Welcome Baby’s Giving Closet;
- Sorting donations, maintaining on site and warehouse inventory assist with the Giving Closet weekly distribution;
- Work with Volunteers on tasks needed to be completed for the Giving Closet;
- Responsible for weekly diaper pick up from Diaper Bank;
- Attend Welcome Baby and Cooperative Extension staff meetings as scheduled;
- Attend community events and represent Welcome Baby program.
- Provides education programs and classes for citizens via consultations, educational seminars and classes;
- Directs outreach services to targeted groups to include home, school and neighborhood visits;
- Handles telephone and computer questions on issues affecting families, children, natural resources and communities;
- Schedules volunteers and assists in the volunteer programs;
- Completes referral paperwork and other documentation as required for specific programs;
- Coordinate activities with schools and community to implement programs;
- Reports activities and records program accomplishments;
- Attends and prepares program team meetings and other oversight committee meetings as needed;
- Prepares and presents written reports, proposals and summaries; and
- Performs related tasks as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to monitor and maintain accurate statistics and records;
- Ability to develop grants and related materials;
- Ability to work with diverse audiences and to collaborate with community agencies and leaders;
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with not-for-profit agencies and county staff as well as representatives from other jurisdictions and citizens;
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing;
- Ability to make sound decisions in areas of responsibility.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and six months of work experience related to the assigned program.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
- Bilingual is preferred, but not necessary.
