The position will work with youth and their families though the Cooperative Extension 4-H Youth Development program to coordinate and deliver services to middle and high school aged youth and their families with programming designed to support youth in developing a pathway to career and/or college. The County Associate Extension Agent, also known as the Juntos Program Coordinator, will work primarily with the Juntos program serving Durham public school students will work closely with other staff, school professionals, and community partners to implement programming. The County Associate Extension Agent performs responsible professional and administrative work coordinating and executing the services within Durham County Cooperative Extension under the supervision of the County 4-H Youth Development program.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.
- Facilitates training activities and group discussions that inform and empower families and youth with the knowledge and support needed to achieve successful outcomes;
- Develops and revises training materials in order to enhance the education of program participants and stakeholders in English and Spanish;
- Collaborates and networks with contractors, partners and others regarding service needs;
- Coaches and mentors program participants and stakeholders in an effort to provide continual assistance;
- Coordinates services with service providers for program participants and stakeholders to include arranging transportation and securing required materials and other support as needed;
- Assists in outreach, recruitment and marketing activities that are designed to increase awareness and to promote community participation in programs;
- Assists in grants management, grant writing and fundraising activities as needed to maintain funding for programs;
- Performs administrative functions with basic skills in computer literacy, recordkeeping, budgeting, and data entry;
- Communicates fluently, clearly and concisely both orally and in writing in English and Spanish.
- Makes sound decisions in areas of responsibility;
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Thorough knowledge of the principles and processes for providing customer and personal services;
- General knowledge of media production, communication, dissemination techniques and methods, human behavior and performance, and individual differences in ability, personality, learning and motivation.
- Basic skills in computer literacy, recordkeeping, statistical computation and grant writing.
- Ability to facilitate group discussions and to educate youth in a group and individual settings;
- Ability to work with a people of varied ages and backgrounds.
- Ability to collaborate with community agencies and leaders;
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with not-for-profit agencies and other partnering organizations;
- Ability to communicate fluently, clearly and concisely both orally and in writing;
- Ability to make sound decisions in areas of responsibility.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Requires graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree and six months of program-related experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bilingual (Spanish)
- Experience with the Juntos: For A Better Education | Para Una Mejor Educación program or related youth college/career pathway programs and experience building partnerships with public schools are preferred.
