GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

 

The purpose of this job is to Performs responsible semi-skilled work in cooking meals and maintaining the Youth Home’s School Nutrition Program; does related work as required.

 

Work is performed under immediate supervision.

 

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

 

  • Provide nutritionally adequate meals meeting Federal Child Nutrition Program meal patterns and dietary standards.
  • Prepares and cooks meats, vegetables, and other foods in accordance with menu.
  • Operates standard cooking equipment, such as ranges, mixers, food choppers, deep fryers, and refrigerators.
  • Plans menus: estimates need for and orders food supplies.
  • Cleans kitchen and equipment, washes dishes.
  • Maintain required records, production records, HACCP binders, daily meal participation.
  • Washes aprons, towels, and other kitchen linens.
  • Performs other custodial tasks as required.
  • Receives and stocks food supplies, maintains sanitary standards.
  • Participates in serving food and in cleaning dining facilities.
  • Performs related tasks as related.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 

  • Thorough knowledge of materials and methods used in preparing meats, breads, and other foods on a large scale, and of the use and care of utensils and equipment.
  • General knowledge of food values and nutrition.
  • Skills in cutting and carving meat.
  • Ability to perform housekeeping and custodial work.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

 

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

 

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of eleventh grade and considerable experience in cooking foods in large quantities and in housekeeping duties.

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

 

 

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
• Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.

 

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

 

  • Proper health certification. 

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Proper health certification in serve safe or other food safety certification program.
  • The ability to maintain the work area and meet health inspections guidelines.
  • Knowledge of Child Nutritions Federal guidelines and regulations
  • NC Drivers License

May be required to work nights, weekends, holidays and emergencies (man-made or natural) to meet the business needs of Durham County.
