GENERAL DESCRIPTION

             

The Case Manager will work directly with the Local Reentry Council Coordinator and program participants to address employment needs. The Local Reentry Council is an organized network of individuals and agencies that provide supervision and coordinate innovative responses to the reintegration of offenders/formerly incarcerated individuals at the local level and through the use of new and existing program services. The work performed by this position is directly related to the developing a systemic approach to addressing the employment needs and barriers facing individuals how are or have been criminal justice involved. This position will serve as the primary point of contact for all activities related to employment for the local reentry council.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Conduct client intakes
  • Engage clients and establish trusting, collaborative relationships to develop plans directed toward their goal of attaining competitive employment.
  • Assist clients with developing long-term employment goals.
  • Assist clients with assessing work history, strengths, employable skills, justice involvement, and other factors that relate to their current employment status and goals.
  • Share job leads.
  • Cultivate relationships with local employers and training providers.
  • Provide assistance with the job search.
  • Update client profile with each new job and educational experience.
  • Conduct employment skills assessments and develop an individual employment plan with each new client.
  • Conduct weekly employer visits to learn about businesses and employer needs, discuss specific clients who are looking for work and/or discuss the local reentry council.
  • Identify training opportunities for participants to gain skills and knowledge for local employment.
  • Participate in local meetings to promote offender employment.
  • Participate in local reentry council meetings and subcommittee meetings.
  • Serve as the facilitator and point of contact for the Employment Subcommittee
  • Prepare reports for the Criminal Justice Advisory Committee related to employment activities.
  • Participate in meetings and activities related to the creation of a coordinated intake process for Employment in Durham County.
  • Enter client information using all required information management systems.
  • Assist the LRC Coordinator with daily operation of the Durham LRC

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

  • Knowledge of Durham County and its human services agencies, churches, schools, businesses and support organizations.
  • Knowledge of the workforce development system and NCWorks.
  • Knowledge of case management principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system in Durham County and of applicable laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of local training and education providers.
  • Skilled in establishing rapport with clients and applying case management techniques.
  • Ability to interview clients and obtain factual information.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with clients.
  • Ability to plan and coordinate work with a variety of individuals, service providers and employers.
  • Ability to operate computer equipment and generate reports and records.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely orally and in written documents.

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

 

Bachelors degree in a human service field and six months experience in social work and/or case management in a public agency or school which provides experience in the techniques of casework, group work or community organization or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

 

A valid North Carolina driver’s license with an acceptable three year driving record.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

Direct services to the offender population is preferred.
