RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Manages and promotes library services in the Bragtown Library, a unique neighborhood branch in the Bragtown Community.  Performs administrative and professional library work and must be able to plan, organize, and execute programs for all ages and make sound decisions.  Work involves maintaining, promoting and coordinating library services, the library collection, and library facility.  Establishing and maintaining positive relationships within the community is essential. Some supervisory or administrative experience desired.  Although this position is based at the Bragtown Library, the selected candidate may be asked to work at other locations.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of modern library operation
  • Thorough knowledge of library reference, adult, children’s, teen and other library services
  • Thorough knowledge and experience with library automated systems
  • Excellent management and leadership skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to analyze problems, recommend practical solutions and make sound decisions
  • Ability to evaluate library systems and develop new and improved methods
  • Ability to train employees in the use of software and hardware and library equipment
  • Ability to relate library services to the needs of the community
  • Ability to work well independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Ability to communicate ideas effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and customers

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

Master of Library Science degree from an ALA accredited library school and three years of experience in professional library work; supervisory experience highly desired.

 

 

PREFERRED:

 

Ability to speak Spanish a plus
