GENERAL DESCRIPTION


The work performed includes responsible technical work in the Tax Administration department in ensuring compliance in the occupancy tax, heavy equipment and short-term rental gross receipts tax programs, ensuring revenue compliance with bank lockbox process, reconciliation of monthly reports such as bank statement, accounts receivable to general ledger, and reconciliation and auditing of all revenues collected, daily balancing.


Work is performed under general supervision.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

  • Knowledge of the N.C. Machinery Act and county tax policies
  • Knowledge of accounting processes and principles
  • Knowledge of Occupancy Tax procedures
  • Ability to perform a large volume of detailed work with a high degree of accuracy
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and similar programs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, subordinates, co-workers and the general public


MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS


Any combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate degree in accounting, bookkeeping, or a related subject and two years of accounting/bookkeeping, or financial auditing experience.

CERTIFICATION, LICENSE AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina and an acceptable driving record.
  • Must obtain certification as Assistant Tax Collector with the North Carolina Tax Collectors Association within 2 years.
