SUMMARY OBJECTIVE

The purpose of this position is to manage the planning and implementation of a project through the project lifecycle. Consults with departments outside of IS&T on their technology needs, meet with requestors on new project requests and support training efforts. This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

• Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.

• Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; monitors completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.

• Develops and manages all aspects of IT project and program engagement from planning, external vendor relationships, communications, resources, scope, budget, change, risks and issues.

• Directs the work of other project members and for managing team activities to meet project objectives

• Monitors, tracks and controls outcomes to resolve issues, conflicts, dependencies and critical path deliverables using IT analytical approaches.

• Creates project plan, including the identification of the project timeline, phases of the project, tasks to be performed, and any possible constraints; identifies any risks or issues.

• Builds the project team and creates Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and Schedule; ensures that team members are meeting their time and quality goals for tasks.

• Plans and facilitates kickoff meeting and kickoff of project.

• Utilizes project management software, analytics and other tools to manage projects, manage data and facilitate meetings and work sessions.

• Informs IT executives, business sponsors, department heads, of IT project progress.

• Analyzes business requirements and project justification for complex IT Initiatives.

• Supports the organization through the analysis and development of processes, procedures, templates, or other documentation.

• Performs related work as assigned.

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Business or Public Administration or related discipline.

• Two (2) years of project management or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

• Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: 

• Project Management Professional certification.
