GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Durham County Library is seeking a part-time Office Assistant for our Small Business Center (SBC) at the Main Library. The Office Assistant will assist with business, entrepreneurship, and workforce development related services and programming for all ages.
The person in this position will solely work evening and weekend hours. Although it is subject to change, the schedule for this position will be:
Tuesday and Wednesday 4:15 – 8 p.m.
Thursday 2:15 – 6 p.m.
Saturday 9:30 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Sunday rotation
This position is part-time, 50% FTE and works approximately 18.75 hrs/week and is eligible for pro-rated benefits.
Although this position is based at the Main Library, the selected candidate may be asked to work at other locations, and offsite as needed.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide excellent customer service on the Business/Reference service point and assist at other desks as needed
- Assist staff with business, entrepreneurship, and workforce development related programming and outreach
- Assist staff with business, entrepreneurship, and workforce development system-wide programs
- Create marketing materials and promote Small Business Center programs and services on a rolling basis
- Stay abreast of business and workforce development trends
- Other items as related to the current needs of the library and the Small Business Center
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of and/or interest in business and entrepreneurship topics and programs
- Knowledge of the Durham business community and news
- Experience working in professional environments
- Knowledge of library services and related programs and events
- Skilled with library systems and technology
- Strong computer skills, including video editing and social media
- Strong commitment to excellent customer service
- Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work pleasantly and effectively with people of all ages
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Graduation or GED equivalent
- One (1) year of customer service, clerical support or related experience preferred
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Public library experience
- Entrepreneurial experience
- Ability to speak Spanish
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
- Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
