GENERAL DESCRIPTION

 

As part of the Business Services Unit, the Senior Library Assistant will provide support for the Main Library’s business focused initiatives, assisting with business-related programming for all ages and providing direct customer service.

 

Work is performed with independence under the supervision of the Business Services Unit Manager.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • The Senior Library Assistant will work to develop, coordinate, and implement business-focused programming
  • Supports a wide-range of outreach activities focused on business-related topics with emphasis on cultivating the library as an asset to Durham’s thriving business community
  • Assists on service points when needed.
  • Provides excellent customer service in a team-based environment.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

  • Thorough knowledge of library resources, procedures, and systems
  • Analytical skills and knowledge of tools for evaluating the community and its information needs.
  • Experience planning, implementing and evaluating library programs for a wide variety of customers.
  • Commitment to excellence in providing customer service to people of all ages
  • Ability to analyze problems, recommend solutions and make decisions
  • Ability to use good judgement in daily services
  • Ability to relate library services to the needs of the community.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with the public and other employees


MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

 

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate degree and two years of experience in library services, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

The ideal candidate would possess public library experience and experience in the business sector.
