GENERAL DESCRIPTION

 

The purpose of this job is to provide intensive screening, counseling and crisis intervention in serious and complicated cases in the psychosocial rehabilitation and adjustment of persons with developmental disabilities or complex mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. This position works full-time in a detention setting.

 

This position works under close to general supervision according to set procedures but determines how or when to complete tasks.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

 

  • Meets with clients prior to release in order to assess the clinical and social needs; plans for the treatment and services required to address needs; identifies required community programs responsible for post release services; provide clients with medication.
  • Meets with clients who are identified as having Mental Health needs within 24-48 hours of incarceration. Complete intakes using the Mental Health Initial Assessment. Complete Release of Information forms to get info from providers and pharmacies.
  • Sends names of current Mental Health clients to the Public Defender's office in order to get court dates.
  • Meets with clients once a month to determine their mental stability and the effectiveness of their mental health medication.
  • Sends medication orders to the pharmacy for clients upon release.
  • Answers sick calls from any client in the jail who have a mental health need.
  • Contacts attorneys, providers and families as needed.
  • Works with Mental Health clients in the Mental Health pod and provide supportive counseling and case management as needed.
  • Works with female detainees facilitating the women’s program
  • Performs related work as assigned.

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

 

Requires a Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Mental Health or relate field supplemented by four (4) years of experience in mental health counseling, treatment or related field; or possession of any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

 

SPECIAL CERTIFICATION AND LICENSES

 

Requires Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor
