GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

 

The Business Systems Analyst’s role is to plan, design, develop, and launch efficient business, financial, and operations systems in support of core organizational functions and business processes. This includes gathering and analyzing data in support of business cases, proposed projects, and systems requirements. The Business Systems Analyst is also responsible for generating and compiling reports based on the findings, complete with probable causes and possible solutions to systems issues. This individual will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help maximize the benefit of IT system investments.

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

  • Meets with decision makers, systems owners, and end users to define business, financial, and operations requirements and systems goals, and identify and resolve systems issues.
  • Solicits and documents business, data, and infrastructure requirements from client and supporting team – responsible for analysis, translation, and defining of business requirements; obtains approval of requirements, testing and implementation.
  • Assists in maintenance and problem analysis of business systems.
  • Leads design sessions in prototyping new systems for the purpose of enhancing business processes, operations, and information process flow.
  • Reviews and analyzes the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems and develop strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems.
  • Identifies and establishes scope and parameters of systems analysis in order to define outcome criteria and measure-taking actions.
  • Partners with management and project sponsors to build business cases to assist with prioritizing projects.
  • Collaborates in the planning, design, development, and deployment of new applications, and enhancements to existing applications; collaborates with project teams to review inputs and implement target solutions.
  • Conducts research on software and hardware products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts.
  • Prepares and delivers reports, recommendations, or alternatives that address existing and potential trouble areas in operating systems across the organization.
  • Creates system design proposals.
  • Performs cost-benefit and return on investment analyses for proposed systems to aid management in making implementation decisions.
  • Ensures compatibility and interoperability of in-house computing systems.
  • Creates systems models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to system programmers.
  • Coordinates and performs in-depth tests, including end-user reviews, for modified and new systems, and other post-implementation support.
  • Provides orientation and training to end users for all modified and new systems.
  • Provides guidance and/or instruction to junior staff members.

  • Considerable knowledge and experience in overseeing the design, development, and implementation of software and hardware solutions, systems, or products.
  • Working knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and standard operating procedures.
  • Extensive practical knowledge in data analytics and reporting tools such as PowerBI or Crystal Reports.
  • Extensive experience with core software applications.
  • Proven experience in the operation and analysis of database hardware, software, and standards, as well as data retrieval methodologies.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

 

College diploma or university degree in the field of business administration, computer science, accounting, or management information systems and a minimum of two years related work experience.

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard or mouse, and to handle other computer components.
